EAST AFRICAN COAST - Beach tours and Safaris
Kenya offers the traveller a land richly endowed by nature with what some consider being the most exciting wildlife in the world along with stunning tropical shores lapped by the warm waters of the Indian Ocean. Kenya's 480 kms (300 miles) of Indian Ocean shoreline are endowed with sublime white sand beaches, shady palm trees, warm waters for swimming and a colorful chain of fringing coral reefs. On-shore breezes temper the heat and the humidity. With year round average high temperatures of 27 - 31° Celsius (81 - 88° F) the weather is just perfect for enjoying the many water sports available, for beach-combing or for relaxing pool-side.
For those who lead a busy and stressful life a break at the coast is the ideal holiday. If you have been on safari, you will certainly enjoy a few days relaxing at the beach, taking in the sun and dining out on the delicious seafood that comes straight from these waters.

The coast has much to offer with a variety of activities and water sports including exploring the underwater marine world of the reefs that lie off its shores. The theme here is definitely one of 'doing as much or as little as you like'.

From the peaks of Mount Kenya and Kilimanjaro, to the open savannah plains the thrill of seeing the animals in their own natural environment roaming freely through some of the most spectacular scenery in the world is a truly breathtaking experience. The excitement as you search for the 'Big Five' and many other animals, to capture them on film is truly unforgettable.

From the coast to the plains, the combination of safari and beach makes a unique holiday experience.

The strings of islands that run up the Kenyan coast, the main ones being Wasini, Chale, Lamu, Funzi Manda, Pate, Kiwayu and Mombasa itself are all worth a visit. Apart from their beach and ocean attractions, most of them have some archaeological interest which is also a constant theme on the mainland: the whole coast is full of ruins fort, Mosques, tombs and even whole towns including Gedi Ruins in Malindi. The beaches have the most beautiful coral reefs in the world the three most spectacular zones, enclosed in Marine National Parks, are far to the south off Wasini Island, the area between Watamu and Malindi and the extreme north off Kiwayu Island.

The Spice Island of Zanzibar is worth visiting. In the legendary Stone Town of Zanzibar, an island whose very name evokes East Africa's exotic past is by its nature a historical site.

The beaches are reef- protected and therefore safe for swimming. We have a wide selection of Kenya beach holidays, ranging from 5 star hotels to private beach villas and cottages.

Beach locations include Mombasa, Malindi, Lamu and south coast.

Beach Holiday Locations
Mombasa City
Mombasa is Kenya's second largest city and has a rich history dating back over 1500 years when it started as a trading port for merchant ships from the Orient, Arabi and Europe. The Portugese explorer, Vasco Da Gama, landed here in 1498 and established a Portugese colony at the coast.

There are a range of hotels to the north and south of Mombasa, known as the North and South coast respectively.

Mombasa North Coast Beaches
These are beaches to the immediate north of Mombasa, upto and including the Kilifi beaches. The beaches include Nyali, Bamburi and Shanzu and Kikambala. There are many hotels along this stretch though the concentration of the hotels thins out while moving towards Kilifi. There are various activities on offer ranging from nature trails to fishing and golf.

Mombasa South Coast
To get to " South Coast" from Mombasa, one takes the Ferry across a narrow channel, usually a colourful experience owing to lots of noise and bustle of the swahili people as they go about their daily business.

South Coast is generally a quiter and cleaner stretch of coastline than the North coast. Beaches include Diani, Tiwi and Gazi, leading upto the Pemba area. Accommodation varies from hotels to cottages.

Lamu
Lamu is a small, historic coastal town, with narrow winding streets, old mosques, colourful markets and uses donkeys and dhows for transport rather than vehicles.

The slow pace of life here, magnificent beaches and the rich culture make this an exotic place to visit where time seems to stand still. The perfect place for honeymooners and couples.
